Beijing (May 16, 2017)- Kunlun Red Star (KRS) Women’s Ice Hockey team is proud to announce the appointment of Rob Morgan as Associate Head Coach, joining the staff of Chief Coach Digit Murphy.
“We are pleased to have Rob Morgan as a member of the KRS family!” Said Coach Murphy, “Rob’s incredibly experienced history as a coach program builder and a recruiter in NCAA Division I and Division III women’s hockey makes him a well respected expert in our field! We couldn’t have a better person to be part of our organization and are looking forward to success with Rob at the helm of one of our KRS pro teams!”
Coach Morgan comes to KRS after a stint at Associate Head Coach of the Yale University Women’s Ice Hockey Coach. Prior to his time at Yale, Morgan was a multiple Coach of the Year winner as the architect and Head Coach of St. Norbert College’s women’s Ice hockey team, leading the team to multiple
post-season berths and creating a winning culture. Previously Coach Morgan has also worked as an assistant on at Dartmouth College winning two ECAC Hockey Championships, helping guide the Big Green to five NCAA Tournaments as well as helping to develop four Olympians and 13 U22 team members.
“This is an amazing opportunity to work with Coach Murphy building the Kunlun Red Star Professional Hockey Club and China’s National Team,” said Coach Morgan. “ We are going to work incredibly hard to prepare China for the 2022 Olympics while at the same time grow hockey at the grassroots level in China. I would like to thank Digit and Mr. Yue for welcoming my family an I into the Kunlun red Star organization.”
On June 6-7 2017, KRS will be hosting its first exposure camp as an opportunity for ethnic Chinese and Chinese athletes to showcase their skills against top competition and earn a spot on one of these prestigious teams. The event will be held at Mastercard Centre for Hockey Excellence, 400 Kipling Avenue, in Toronto and will feature both games and drills to showcase each individual’s skills. KRS is working to create a successful long-term development plan for women’s ice hockey in China as the nation prepares to host the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. Part of this plan includes the fielding of several Junior and Pro level teams under the direction of KRS Chairman Mintwell Yang, Chief Coach Digit Murphy, and her staff.
